Most forms of yoga in the West can be classified as Hatha Yoga. Hatha simply refers to the practice of physical yoga postures, meaning your Ashtanga, vinyasa, Iyengar and Power Yoga etc are all Hatha.

The word “hatha” can be translated two ways: as “willful” or “forceful,” or the yoga of activity, and as “sun” (ha) and “moon” (tha), the yoga of balance.

The practice can include physical postures/asanas, pranayama/breathing techniques, mantra/chanting/reciting, mudras/hand gestures, visualisation & cleansing teqniques.

SO WHAT EXACTLY IS HATHA YOGA?
Yoga Basics

Best for those completely new to yoga. A slow paced introduction to the basics of yoga including breathing, physical yoga postures and more. Less poses per class with a focus on warming up the muscles, flexibility & building strength. Taking it slowly to understand body mechanics and ensure proper guidance into and out f the pose. Challenges and modifcations can be offered to increase or decrease difficulty

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Gentle Flow

A slow paced class, great for all levels, where we'll gently move through yoga poses, smoothly flowing one into the other. This gentle pace will still allow time to ensure proper alignment, moving through postures using the breath to help fluid movements & transitions. Relax & rejuvenate, while still energizing with a light cardio component. Challenges & modifcations can be offered to increase or decrease difficulty.

Flow

WHAT TO EXPECT?

My philosophy is encourage, enable, educate & enlighten. Helping students to find their version of the pose with a focus on alignment & breathing, always offering modifcations for all bodies & levels.

I ensure to customize each class taking into consideration the needs of the group I am teaching and their skill level.

Each class will differ, depending on the class chosen but my essential style stays the same:

Upbeat while still being relaxing

Encouraging, so you feel pumped up to challenge yourself but comfortable to know the number one thing is to listen to your body

Perfect balance of traditional yoga,

Modifcations for every single pose/stretch

Explain why we're doing it, not just how

Hands on, helping you to deepen

MY TEACHING STYLE

Note that we can incporporate a therapeutic portion to any given class. ie. Gentle Flow with a focus on sciatica relief, Yoga Basics with a focus on exercises for neuropathy.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Restorative Yoga

A restorative yoga sequence typically involves only five or six poses, supported by props that allow you to completely relax and rest. Held for 5 minutes or more, restorative poses include light twists, seated forward folds, and gentle bends. Even the most on-the-go personality will be amazed at their ability to finally let go & give in. Rejuvinate, relax and restore.

Vinyasa

A faster paced session with a focus on flowing from pose to pose using the breath. Cardio  rich session through sun salutations, interesting transitions & fluid movement. We will work through poses building strength & flexibility. Not suited for beginners, until they have a comfortable foundation & understanding of basic poses. Poses can be modified to increase or decease difficulty.
